John M. Lloyd Foundation welcomes proposals that fit within our Guidelines. We urge applicants to review the guidelines carefully to be sure their projects fit within the Foundation's specific funding objectives. Applicants may call or e-mail the Foundation to discuss a particular proposal if they are uncertain as to whether it falls within the guidelines.
Applicants must submit a Concept Letter describing the specific project for which funding is sought before a Formal Proposal is submitted. The Concept Letter must be received by the Foundation by December 15 for the Spring Cycle (but not earlier than November 1).
PLEASE NOTE: Due to the economic crisis and its impact on the Foundation’s endowment, as of March 2009 and until further notice the Lloyd Foundation will ONLY consider requests from previous Lloyd Foundation grantees.
Concept Letters should be no more than 4 pages and should include the following information:
- Brief statement of the issues to be addressed, history and goals of your organization, and your organization's prior involvement with these issues;
- Brief summary of the project (no longer than 2 pages) and anticipated outcome;
- Approximate starting date and duration of the project;
- Total amount of funding needed, amount requested from the foundation, and information about other sources of support;
- For renewal applicants, Concept Letters should discuss the progress to date on the previously-funded project, and what is proposed for the renewal of support.
In addition, please provide the following:
- Organization's annual budget and a list of current directors and officers.
- References: Names, addresses, phone numbers and e-mail addresses of three persons outside of the applicant organization who would be willing to discuss the organization's work.
Applicants whose Concept Letters are reviewed favorably by the Board will be asked to submit a Formal Proposal. Unsolicited Formal Proposals will not be considered.
It is preferred that concept letters be submitted via e-mail (). If e-mail is unavailable, you may send the concept letter via fax (310/ 622-1070). NO postal requests will be accepted or acknowledged.
